MGM visualized the density of the field of life science resources and career which will be helpful in the area of research, MGM aimed to establish the department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.  In the year 2001-2002 the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics was established with the vision to provide knowledge-based technological services to satisfy the needs of society and the industry with the help of Biotech areas.The department laid its first milestone with the Diploma in Bioinformatics (PG Diploma in Bioinformatics).  With the intake of 20 students the course was completed satisfactorily.Then in the year 2002-2003 with the affiliation under Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar University, Aurangabad, PG course M.Sc. Biotechnology was introduced, which was a major milestone achieved by MGM in the area of Biotechnology. The course started with the intake of 20 students. The college began with limited resources and laboratory facilities.In the year 2004-05 MGM launched B.Sc. Agricultural Biotechnology under the affiliation of Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani. In the year 2005-2006 MGM visualized the need of field of informatics. Keeping the attitude to excel in the field of biotechnology, M.Sc. in Bioinformatics was launched in affiliation to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. Now MGM is well established in the field of research and in the area of biotechnology and Bioinformatics with well equipped R & D laboratory to excel thename of Mahatma Gandhi Mission on the globe.

Campus

The Institute of Biosciences and Technology is constructed over 3,00,000 sq. ft. area. The Florence Nightangale GNM, Nursing College and Mother Teresa B.Sc. Nursing College, Physiotherapy College, Naturopathy college are co-located with the Medical College buildings. In addition, Resident Doctors Quarters are located within the hospital complex. Boys and Girls Hostel exist separately near the MGM Sports Complex with a well equipped gymnasium and MGM sports ground, all within the MGM Campus.
