VIPASSANA - AN INTRODUCTION.
The technique of Vipassna is a simple, practical way to achieve real peace of mind and to lead a happy, useful life. Vipassna means “ Seeing thing as they are.” It is a logical process of mental purification through self- observation. Vipassna enables us to experience peace and harmony, it purifies the mind by freeing it from sufferings and the deep rooted causes of sufferings. Through Vipassna an individual leads step-by step to the highest spiritual goal of full liberation and is free from all mental defilements.

Historical Backgroud.
Vipassna  is one of India’s most ancient meditation techniques. It was rediscovered 2500 years ago by Gautama Buddha, and is the essence of what he practiced and taught. Five centuries after Buddha, the noble heritage of Vipassna  had disappeared from India. The purity of the technique was lost  as well. But in the country of Burma, however, it was preserved by a chain of devoted teachers. From one generation to the other, for over two thousand years, this dedicated lineage transmitted the technique in its pristine purity. In the year 1969 Shri Goenkaji began conducting Vipassna  courses in India. He has conducted it with various durations : 10 days, 20 days,30 days,45 days, 60 days, The courses are conducted in India and abroad and training is also given on techniques, of conducting the courses. Even today an increasing number of people have the opportunity to learn this art of living which brings lasting peace and happiness.
